Scoop: A Recipe for Recovery
While I write every day, having the opportunity to stretch my wings – writing wise – for Irish food magazine Scoop was a definite thrill. Issue two: Eat Your Feelings gave me the opportunity to write about my time recovering from a brain injury in New Zealand, how cooking helped me to re-forge connections in my brain and to root me in a new country, surrounded by strangers who became family and friends. It’s out now and can be ordered from publisher Nine Bean Rows.
“After Caroline Hennessy @bibliocook moved to New Zealand and was knocked down by a speeding courier van, she lost her short-term memory, her balance and her words, but she did remember how to cook.
She writes, ‘Always fiercely independent, I am now a dependant. I need help getting dressed because of the fractures and in our shower-over bath because of balance. I need help remembering what the doctors have said and the appointments that I need to attend.
‘But I do have a kitchen. And we need to eat.’
Read Caroline’s feature, ‘A Recipe for Recovery’, in Issue 02: Eat Your Feelings.”
