All the fun of the Ballymaloe Festival of Food
I’ll be there for beer, cider, butter and bread, with a side helping of cookery demos, talks, workshops and great food. Others come to watch and meet a specific cookbook author. Some have grabbed tickets for one of the pop up dining experiences in the Woodshed or Ballymaloe House: I booked tickets early for the Quo Vadis Sunday lunch. And there’s always the option of coming along to spend time eating your way around the Big Shed and chilling out in the gardens.
The Ballymaloe Festival of Food has something for everyone to taste and try and experience. It’s an opportunity to engage with fresh thinking on all different levels, from Karen O’Donohoe of Ballymaloe Organic Farm School’s Change We Must Stage to the Cool Food School’s kids cooking workshops, orchard tours and Sarah Browne’s Oysome’s Oyster Tent.
I’ve worked on many different stages at Ballymaloe and this year I’m popping up in several areas.
- 5pm on Friday 16 May: I’ll be talking INDIE BEERS with Dr Christina Wade and Mark Cadden, with John McKenna in the moderator’s seat. Come early to get a seat – we’ll have plenty of samples!
- 11.15am on Saturday 17 May: I’ve got Geraldine from Stonewell Cider, Brian of Killahora Orchards and The Apple Farm’s Con Trass on stage to discuss CRAFT CIDER: THE WINE OF IRELAND
- 3.30pm on Saturday 17 May: It’s RECIPES FOR RECOVERY with Marcus O’Laoire on Dee Laffan’s brilliant Scoop & A Yarn stage.
- 10.30am on Sunday 18 May: For all you early risers, come join me, Conor Spacey, Theo Kirwan, Erica Drum, Graham Herterich at the Kerrygold Butter Club on transforming leftover bread into breakfasts, dinners and desserts at FROM CRUST TO CRUTON: FINDING BEAUTY IN LOST BREAD.
Come along for inspiration, for fun, to meet your heroes and eat great food. The full line up and tickets are all online at Ballymaloe Festival of Food.
Day entry tickets are available for Friday (€20), Saturday and Sunday (€25 each). A weekend pass is €65 and children under 12 go free. Included with your entry ticket is access to all cooking demonstrations, Drinks Theatre talks and most of the guided tours. There is an extra charge for the dining events and some workshops.
